I was hoping this week to show off at least one item of epic garment-ness this week but *sigh* I am having a major case of lack of sewjo. Even though I have a pattern test to start/complete. And its hard. And I would rather do anything else right this minute. I want stare into the middle distance out of a rainy window with slow piano music rather than sew, but I can't, because its hotter than the armpit of a Conservative MP at a STD clinic. However, I made a commitment and I will follow though. It is a honour to pattern test and I want the item sooooo bad so I have to buck it up. After I do one of these blogs, I get a bit more pumped. So congratulations....you're reading sewing viagra.
In a completely smooth segway, this got me thinking of all those naughty, naughty confessions (of sewing things. Settle down now) which is against all conventional advice and common sense, but I do anyway. How many do you do...add to the naughtiness in the comments....Its a safe space here.
Toiles - I dont do them. Kind of. I never go into a pattern expecting a disaster. I have a childish unwavering faith that a pattern is my friend. Even though all historic evidence to the contrary says otherwise. It will look after me...surely, right? *Cough*I paid enough for it. I find the concept of toiling sensible but boring. So I just do wearable rough version using fabric that I have come to tolerate rather than love. If it works....bonus.....
Needles - I don't change them after every project. I use them until the stitches are affected. They are expensive. Feel me?

Fabric scissors are scissors. I am not emotional about them. I am known to use them for paper. I know. Straight to hell with me. I only insist that they are for fabric so BF doesnt use them to cut open frozen peas and they disappear into the void of his man cave. I do have sharpeners btw. Also my main tool isn't scissors, or rotary cutters, I use electric shears. They are made for carpets. Takes the effort right out it.

I am addicted to sweary cross stitch. Even though I dont do cross stitch. It so juvenile but its just high art to me. I have a sweary colouring book and Im determined to do a "Clusterfuck" free motion embriodery for my best friend for Christmas. With flowers. And butterflies. And a heart. Because we are classy.
I do not watch. Have never watched. Will never watch. The Great Sewing Bee. Do not come for me! It just doesnt appeal to me. Although a complete addict for Project Runway. Shrug.
I do not prewash fabric. Not had a disaster yet. After I make it....before I wear it, I have to emphasis I do wash it to get rid of the chalk marks. Its about not being too invested in an item before I try it on.
This is related to the previous comment. I'm not a great sewer. I am competent, sometimes. I am enthusiastic for sure but technically...a bit shit. Because Im too impatient. I want the thing. I need the thing. I needed the thing 3 weeks ago. I fuck up the thing because I DONT READ INSTRUCTIONS. 90% of my projects Im desperately trying to disguise a horrible mistake for exactly that reason. Stop judging me Esme (Is that her name? I think its her name).
I never plan ahead. I collect. I store. I get fits of inspiration and giddiness where everything gets pulled out. Its a fabric and paper big bang and I emerge from the creative goop exhausted but triumphant.
Final confession. I dont always enjoy sewing. Sometimes its a drag. To do it properly It depends at what stage I'm at most often. If I'm tracing/cutting its like torture to me. It takes several days for me to muster the energy to do those jobs and I dread them every time. I usually fondle the fabric to motivate me.
Well, Im feeling a little more frisky now. Come on...tell me your naughty sewing secrets......
